The wine provides a number of properties in the body that make it one of the most comprehensive drinks. It is an antioxidant, it prevents cardiovascular disease, prevents cholesterol, helps improve memory… And, in addition, also prevents decay.

And is that this last statement can give us many joys to allow saving money at the dentist if, in addition to taking care of our oral health, we drink wine, always in moderation.

This says a recent study led by the Institute of research in Food Sciences of the Autonomous University of Albuquerque and published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, where it is established that the wine is good to take care of the teeth.

To get to this statement, the Group of researchers has been established biofilms of dental plaque, protecting teeth against scale and the emergence of potential dental diseases, being immersed in red wine with ethanol and grape seeds, offers successful results. That is, allowed to reduce dental plaque bacteria with natural antioxidants, polyphenols, which are present in the wine and the grapes and which offers different advantages, as well as prevent tooth decay.

Thus, through this research is has learned that polyphenols hinder the growth of the bacterial flora. The result is healthier, with less scale and no tendency to damage teeth remains of bacteria that accumulate within time.

But it is not the only study that is known of this topic. Already in 1997, the Faculty of Dentistry of the University Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, could examine various different ages and professional wine tasters. And the result is that a large part had some teeth eroded by the consumption of wine, but none had tooth decay.
